What is NDIS?
The NDIS is Australia’s first national Scheme for people with disability. It provides funding directly to individuals to allow them to have choice and control over their own care.
There are around 4.3 million Australians who have a disability. When it is fully rolled out, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will provide about 460,000 Australians aged under 65, who have permanent and significant disability with funding for supports and services. For many people, it will be the first time they receive the disability support they need.
The NDIS can provide all people with disability with information and connections to services in their communities such as doctors, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools, as well as information about what support is provided by each state and territory government. How is my funding managed?
NDIS' core values are choice and control hence they gave you an option on how to access or manage your funding. Your funding can be categorised into the following:
1. NDIS Managed - meaning you can go to any NDIS approved provider, submit your plan and service will be provided to you. The provider will be the one who will invoice NDIS directly.
2. Agency Managed - this means that an agency manages your support and they can connect you with the providers they are affiliated with.
3. Self Managed- this means that you can go to any provider, pay for your service and send invoice to NDIS for payment.
